Greenwich Village Arts Trail 7-8th Nov 2020

GVAT 2020 A fabulous success.

Despite all the dramas of the year the amazing Greenwich (Sydney Australia) artists hosted a very successful Greenwich Village Arts Trail. The outdoor nature of the event had art enthusiasts out in record numbers - eager to log in with QR Codes before attending a fabulous collection of work.

The dates were Saturday November 7th & Sunday November 8th 2020 and most artworks were for sale. Here is the map & list featuring all the artists that were on the Covid Safe trail.

There was also a bus dedicated to the trail for the weekend & coffee stops around…

Look out for GVAT 2021 - planned for the first weekend in November 2021.

Below are some biographies of artists that participated in the 2019 Art Trail. Please come along to see their wonderful new work and new artists on the 2020 trail. Including Andrew Richardson’s Billboards in The Gardens on Mitchell St Greenwich No 22 on the Map, Illustrator, Imogen Bayliss-Smith at No 20 and Jane Madison - Sculptures at No 2.

Anthea Boesenberg - Studio 29B

She’s number 1 on the Arts Trail. Anthea’s exciting new work is a must-see - subtle, intriguing work that packs a punch. Her work, while abstract, is powerfully connected to feeling and to patterning in a way that is very relatable. And she’s on hand to explain her work, and to demonstrate some of her techniques on request.

Andrea Wilson

Andrea is an architect and contemporary figurative painter. She is 18 on the 2020 trail.
Her work tends toward observational representation, often of landscapes and objects from walks around Greenwich.
Since beginning her painting practice in 2017, Andrea has participated in exhibitions in Sydney and Regional NSW. She has also won a number of awards including, most recently, the Waverley Drawing Prize.

Amanda Harrison’s sculpture is about joy, life and love, conveying strength in optimism. She is number 15 on the 2020 Arts Trail.
She writes: “My favorite subject is the parent and child, an ancient symbol of renewal and hope. My figures are contemporary in style, using uncomplicated shapes and flowing lines, always seeking the elusive simplified human form.

I love exploring balance, often putting my figures up on their toes, hopping or dancing, creating both tension and movement in the piece as well as giving it a whimsical feel, which I love. Surface texture is also a passion, not only because texture brings energy and highlights the form but because it also makes a ‘made by hand’ statement, important in this world of mass-produced goods.”

Dana Dion

I take experiences out in nature back to my studio and paint large. I use a lot of paint. I make a mess. I am very physical when I work, moving energetically. I allow the movement to initiate rhythms. I capture the energy by painting quickly. Intuition and boldness drive the work. Accidents along the way make for spontaneity and improvisation.

In this dialogue between the planned and the unplanned, Dion finds a balance. A lexicon of shapes and her distinct language reoccur, regardless of the environment from which she draws her inspiration. “The landscapes do not depict a specific place, but rather a recording of the many places I have lived without borders or boundaries,” she explains.

I create works that excite me. I can’t do authentic work if I am also thinking about the audience, because the work is too self-conscious. I can dream and feel while I am alone, allowing my emotions to surface without directing or controlling them.

Dana’s studio is number 19 on the 2020 Arts Trail.

MaryAnne Parry’s studio is number 11 on the Arts trail. MaryAnne’s abstract and semi-abstract work reflects her love of landscape, and the textures, colours and patterns she observes. She uses a wide variety of media, including wax encaustic, in her bushland studio.

Jane creates a colourful variety of beaded jewellery and Christmas ornaments from her treasured collection of glass, semi-precious stone, metal and ceramic beads. Jane is not participating in the 2020 Arts Trail and should be back next year.
